Protecting what matters, explained honestly.
I'm Craig Fegan, a registered financial adviser with AIA Thrive. I help New Zealand families and business owners protect their income, health and the people who depend on them — in plain English, with no fee for the advice.
What I help with
I specialise in personal risk insurance — the cover that keeps your household running if you get sick, hurt, or aren't around. Every recommendation is based on your situation, not a product list.
-
Life insurance
A lump sum for your family if you die or are diagnosed with a terminal illness — enough to clear the mortgage, replace lost income, and give them time to breathe.
-
Income protection
A monthly payment if illness or injury stops you working. We look honestly at what ACC does and doesn't cover, and what your household actually spends each month.
-
Trauma cover
A lump sum on diagnosis of serious conditions like cancer, heart attack or stroke, so the money question is off the table while you recover.
-
Health insurance
Access to private treatment without waiting on the public list. I'll explain the differences between policies clearly, including what excesses and exclusions mean for you.
-
Mortgage and debt protection
Cover shaped around your loan so repayments keep being made when life doesn't go to plan.
-
Reviewing existing cover
Already insured? I'll go through what you have, tell you if it still fits, and say so plainly if it does — you won't be sold a change you don't need.
How working together goes
Four steps, at your pace. You can stop at any point and owe nothing.
We talk
A free, no-obligation conversation — in person, by phone or on video — about your family, work, debts and what worries you.
I do the work
I assess your actual risk, compare cover from the insurers I'm able to advise on, and write it up in language you can follow.
You decide
We go through the recommendation together, including costs and any trade-offs. Take your time. Ask anything.
I stay with you
I handle the applications and insurers, review your cover as life changes, and stand beside you if you ever need to claim.
Straight answers
The things people usually wonder but don't always ask. You deserve to know these before we meet, not after.
What does your advice cost me?
Nothing. You won't be charged a fee for advice at any time, even if you decide not to take any of the cover I recommend.
So how are you paid?
When you take out a policy, the insurer pays a commission to AIA Thrive and to me — an initial amount, and a smaller ongoing amount each year the policy stays in place. I'll tell you the actual figures for any product I recommend before you sign anything.
I manage this conflict of interest by following an advice process based on your needs, and by putting your interests ahead of my own — which the Code of Conduct requires of me anyway.
Who are you licensed through?
I provide advice under AIA Thrive Limited, which operates under a Financial Advice Provider licence issued by the Financial Markets Authority to AIA Services New Zealand Limited. I’m registered as FSP1012293. You can check my registration, and AIA Thrive’s (FSP665291), on the Financial Service Providers Register.
Which insurers can you recommend?
I can advise on life and health products from AIA and the other providers approved under the AIA Thrive licence. I'll confirm the current list at our first meeting, and I'll tell you if a product I can't offer might suit you better.
What are my duties to you?
I have to give priority to your interests, act with care, diligence and skill, and meet the standards of the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services. These are legal duties, not marketing lines.
What if something goes wrong?
Tell me first and I'll work to put it right. If you're not satisfied, you can raise it with AIA Thrive's internal complaints process, and after that with the Insurance & Financial Services Ombudsman Scheme (IFSO), a free and independent service. Full details are on the complaints page and in AIA Thrive’s public disclosure.

About Craig
I’m a financial adviser with AIA Thrive, and I focus on one area: personal insurance — life, income protection, trauma, health and mortgage cover. Keeping that focus means I know it properly and can explain it plainly, without jargon or pressure.
"My job isn't to sell you a policy. It's to make sure the day you need one, it does what you were told it would."
I work with individuals, families and business owners across New Zealand — in person, by phone or on video. You’ll get honest answers, a recommendation you can actually follow, and the same person on the end of the phone if you ever need to claim.
